The President of the Universal United Youth Organisation (UUY), a non-governmental organisation, on Wednesday called on Ghanaians to be conscious of the reality that HIV/AIDS does not respect persons.
Mr. Eric Pinaman Asare, who was speaking at an AIDS awareness programme for a cross-section of the youth in the Birim Central Municipality of the Eastern Region, at Akim Oda, stressed that HIV/AIDS was real and urged the youth to desist from early sex and let their books be their friends.
He said the only way to help HIV/AIDS patients was to show absolute love and care to them since such positive attitudes could help them to withstand the ravages of their illness.
Mr. Edward Asiedu Acheampong, National Organiser of UUY, said the organisation was aimed at combating stigma, support prevention, and increase availability of treatment, care and support for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
Mr. Acheampong noted that the spread of the HIV/AIDS was at the moment having a negative impact on the national economy and labour productivity.
He said the virus represented the greatest social, economic and health crises of the times.
Mr. Acheampong therefore, appealed to other organisations to endeavour to create Awareness about HIV/AIDS in order to bring about the desired impact in behavioural change.
