A Kade District Magistrate's Court has fined Fuseini Ayeru, a labourer 500 Ghana Cedis for assaulting his girl friend over a mobile phone.
Ayeru who pleaded guilty would in default serve six months imprisonment in hard labour.
Police Inspector D. T. Nartey, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Kwaku Baah-Frempong that Ayeru befriended Dora Avaga for six months at Boadua and bought her a mobile phone.
He said after sometime Ayeru left Dora for two weeks without informing her of his whereabouts and did not leave any money for her upkeep.
The prosecution said Dora depended on her sister, a drinking bar operator for her upkeep.
He said on August 2, this year Dora went to the sister's house in the evening where she met Ayeru who demanded the mobile phone from her but she refused.
The prosecution said her refusal infuriated Ayeru who chased her and severely assaulted her until she was rescued by a passerby.
However, he said Ayeru did not leave the scene but hanged around and Dora's sister, suspecting that Ayeru could attack Dora again, reported the incident to a policeman on duty at a nearby Rural Bank who arrested Ayeru and sent him to the police station and after investigations charged with the offence.
