The Very Reverend Kwesi Arthur-Mensah, Superintendent Minister of the Takoradi Circuit of the Methodist Church said Christians should set an example in their utterances and behaviour before and during the elections.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview on Sunday, Rev. Arthur-Mensah said it was sad that the Electoral Commission (EC) had to spend several days cleaning the voters register, after detecting that some of the names in the register were that of minors and others who registered more than once.
He said many of the people, who engaged in such acts, were Christians who deliberately ignored Christian principles and engaged in such "disgraceful acts all with the aim of winning or helping their parties to win the elections".
Rev Arthur-Mensah said the Bethel Methodist Church had educated its members to vote early on December 7, and leave the polling station soon after voting.
"We do not want any of our members to engage in any act that could tarnish the image of the country and the church as a whole," he said.
Rev Arthur-Mensah reminded Christians that with just a few days to the election, it will be suicidal to provoke ones political opponents and urged them to use temperate language.
He urged all Christians to pray that God will choose an appropriate leader who will be able to help transform the fortunes of the country.
