Eight districts under the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme in the Accra and Tema Metropolis on Wednesday went on a float to raise awareness on why people should subscribe to the national health insurance scheme.
The float, which was part of activities to mark the NHIS week celebration, went through some principal streets within the various scheme areas through to Accra where they converged at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle for an address.
In an address to round off the float, Mr Ras Boateng, Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority, told the crowd to spread the good news about the scheme to all to enable them to subscribe to it.
He said the scheme stood tall among all other poverty reduction programmes adding that with quality and affordable healthcare readily available, one could go about activities productively.
Mr Boateng announced that next year, the scheme hoped to rope in additional 30 per cent of new subscribers.
Meanwhile, President John Agyekum Kufuor is expected to address a grand durbar at Dodowa on Thursday to round off the week celebration of the NHIS.
