Every city has its secrets, and the new CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD series promises to give DStv audiences a look at the cities of the world before
they became what we know, love and see today starting February 6 at 20:00 CAT on The History Channel.
The History Channel continues to broadcast programs that give insight into the world before our time. DStv audiences are invited to tune in as
a new season of CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD begins on February 6th at 20:00 CAT.
Don Wildman tears through the streets of the worlds' most famous cities to uncover secrets hidden hundreds of meters beneath the sidewalks. Part urban explorer and part historian, Don tells the stories that not many know above ground and reveals underworlds that have been lost to the
hands of time.
In CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD: TUNNELS OF HELL (Okinawa), viewers get to see how the largest naval armada in US history descended upon the
Japanese island of Okinawa in April of 1945, an event that became known as the "Typhoon of Steel." What was meant to be a swift victory for the Americans turned out to be the bloodiest battle of the Pacific that lasted for more than three months. The battle was not confined to land
only; it was beneath it as well, in the beehives of combat tunnels where American soldiers faced the Japanese Army, to the caves where thousands
of civilians hid. Don Wildman reveals what is like to have lived through the battle of Okinawa and dives to explore the sunken naval destroyer in
the waters off Okinawa's coast.
CITIES OF THE UNDERWORLD: THE REAL MAFIA UNDERGROUND (Sicily) takes a look at how the mafia has instilled fear and managed to get its presence noticed around the world.
Don Wildman travels to Sicily to trace the mafia's roots as far back as when it was still a vigilante secret society in an underground network
that was created to hold trials for corrupt officials and carry out punishment on the accused. Don finds an escape route for one of the most wanted mob bosses which takes him through waterways and also exposes how
the mafia teamed up with the Allies during the Second World War.
One of the other interesting documentaries in the series is CITIES OF THE UNDEROWRLD: LAS VEGAS where audiences are welcomed to America's Sin
City, a city where billions of dollars are lost and made every year on national vices.
In order to protect their cash, casinos have made security their highest priority. Don Wildman uncovers how the latest technology beats the
cheaters using everything secret surveillance nerve centers to underground vaults. He also takes viewers on a journey into how Vegas
was transformed from a barren desert into a mobster metropolis where thieves ran the show from underground tunnels dating as far back as the
Prohibition era.
DStv viewers are also invited to watch the rest of the series which includes a look into London's underground cities as well as a documentary special called DARK AGES on February 7th at 20:30 CAT which takes a look at the dramatic period that followed the fall of the Roman Empire. Continuing series like ICE ROAD TRUCKERS begins on February 2nd at 20:30 CAT.
