At least five soldiers aboard a Colombian Air Forces (FAC) plane were killed when it crashed on a training mission on Wednesday, official sources said.
The plane precipitated to ground near the First Air Command in Puerto Salgar, department of Cundinamarca, northwest of Bogota, the FAC said in a statement.
Three officers and two under officers, crew of the plane died in the accident.
"The FAC regrets to inform that today (Wednesday), about 8 a.m. local time (1300 GMT) the plane AC-47 with license FAC-1670, crashed fulfilling a training mission," the FAC said.
The "phantom plane," as it is known, caught fire when crashing against the ground.
"We received the information about the plan had felt at 8 a.m. (local time)," Police Commander in the Department of Caldas, Colonel John Jaime Ospina said.
Opsina said that FAC's plane crashed in an empty lot near the electrical sub station El Purino, in the west of Caldas, border with the municipality of Honda (Tolima), and the causes are unknown.
The Civil Defence said the plane was completely destroyed.
The FAC Commander, General Jorge Ballesteros discarded the accident to have been caused by a "terrorist attack" and he affirmed that the plane was "flying over a region controlled by the authorities so there is not any possibility of an attack from groups outside the law."
"They were fulfilling training tasks on extreme conditions to prove their capacities," Ballesteros added.
Balelsteros said an investigation team arrived at the scene to probe the causes of the accident.
