Ghanaians have been urged to be committed to the development of the country and to work hard to propel the nation to attain a middle income status.
The Reverend Prince Owusu Asegra, Techiman Municipal Chairman of the Local Council of Churches, said this at a thanksgiving service for a successful election and a peaceful transition.
The service, which was under the theme, "Uniting Ghana through Christ", was attended by traditional rulers, the clergy, heads of departments and the general public.
Rev. Asegra appealed to Ghanaians to put behind divisive tendencies that characterized the December 2008poll and to regard themselves as one people so they could forge ahead towards socio-economic development of the nation.
"It is only by accepting each other's views that we can actualise God's vision for the progress of the country", he said.
Mr. Kwabena Owusu Agyemang, Brong-Ahafo Regional chairman of the National Democratic Congress, reiterated the need for the party faithful not to engage in acts of revenge for what they suffered during the past eight years in opposition.
He said President John Evans Atta Mills' government cherished good governance and appealed to the clergy and other well-meaning Ghanaians to criticize the government constructively.
Mr. Addai Simons, Member of Parliament for Techiman South, said the NDC had achieved its goal to regain power and what was left was for all Ghanaians to unite for accelerated national development.
Mr. Simon Ogah, Techiman municipal director of National Commission for Civic Education, expressed displeasure at the attitude of some clergymen who predicted the possible outcome of the general election on radio programmes, saying such acts could undermine the integrity of future elections.
Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw IV, Omanhene of Techiman who presided, appealed to NDC supporters to avoid intimidating NPP party faithful as that did not augur well for the country's democracy.
