Mr Dayo W. Obaweya, West Africa Regional Coordinator of LifeWind International, a Christian Non-Governmental Organization on Thursday advised church leaders to avoid large congregations and go back to "cell groups".
He said this way, they would get to know their members better, appreciate their spiritual and physical needs and be able to attend to those needs.
Mr Obaweya who was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Ho said large congregations which have become the craze these days, make it difficult for pastors and church leaders to impart good Christian values into their flocks.
He urged pastors to practice what they preach and avoid lavish lifestyles in contrast to the abject poverty among those whom they lead.
As an international youth worker, Mr Obaweya recommended to churches in Africa to pay special attention to the youths among their congregations and bring them up to uphold good morals, the fear of God so as to become good leaders for the continent in future.
He said it was therefore important to assign youth pastors to be in charge of their youth groups in order to have better understanding of youth issues, and be able to address challenges confronting young people in the church.
