A 33-year-old driver, Augustus Aggrey has been jailed four years in hard labour for stealing two bags of dried cocoa beans belonging to the Produce Buying Company (PBC).
Aggrey, an ex-convict, went to jail in December last year on a similar offence and was released on health grounds.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Edward Padi of the Tarkwa Police, told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawou, that the complainant in the case who is a purchasing clerk of PBC had been experiencing series of theft at his shed making him to incur heavy losses.
C/Insp. Padi said early this month the complainant returned from a trip and realized again that two bags of cocoa had been stolen from a stock he kept at the depot.
In the course of enquiries, the purchasing clerk learnt that Aggrey was seen with two bags of cocoa which he was offering to sell to a buyer at Aboso.
He proceeded to the town where he identified the sacks to be those missing and the accused was arrested.
