The National Executive of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) on Wednesday asked the government to honour
its promise and faithfully begin action on the implementation of the
Single Spine Salary Structure for the current fiscal year.
A statement in Accra signed by Mr. Joseph K. Adjei, National President
of GNAT said teachers would not accept any delay in its implementation
and warned that members would advise themselves if no action was taken by
Friday April 17, 2009.
The statement said GNAT at its meeting in Accra on Tuesday April 7, 2009, recalled that at the meeting of organized labour with the Minister of Finance, on Friday February 27 2009, the Finance Minister promised that immediately the National Daily Minimum wage was determined, a Technical Sub-Committee would be set up to work on the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure.
It said though the National Daily Minimum was fixed last Friday, April 3, the Tripartite Committee has adjourned without any firm direction.
