A "Rasta man", 42, has been remanded in prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit Court for allegedly stealing shoes worth GH¢6,500 belonging to a trader.
Kwame Nyantakyi, who claims to be a musician, pleaded not guilty to the charge and is to re-appear on May 5, 2009.
Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Doris Amewu, told the court, presided over by Mr. D.W.P. Amedior that, the complainant has rented a room in a house belonging to the accused person's mother, at Roman Hill, for use as her ware house. The accused lives in the same house.
She explained that the complainant stores the shoes she imports in the warehouse but she was experiencing the theft of some of her goods.
On April 20, this year at about 0830 hours, the complainant went to work and realized that 90 boxes of shoes were missing.
Upon a search, 10 of them were found hidden in three uncompleted rooms in the same house, hence Nyantakyi was confronted but he could not give any legitimate explanation.
A report was made to the police leading to his arrest and a search in his room revealed 10 more of the boxes.
In his caution statement, he admitted the offence and confessed that he had sold six of the shoes and deposited the proceeds at the bank.
After further investigations an amount of GH¢1,400 was retrieved from the bank by the police and he was arraigned.
Meanwhile, 70 boxes of shoes valued at GH¢5,060 are yet to be recovered.
