Mr. Robert Ajene, a retired educationist, has appealed to district assemblies in the Upper East Region to enact by laws to ban children from going to internet cafés during school hours.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga on Monday, he expressed concern at the rate at which school children leave their classrooms during lesson hours to cafes.
"This problem has to be tackled before it gets out of hand. The future of the children will be bleak if they are allowed to engage in internet fraud."
Mr Ajene said if district assemblies could enact by laws on the environment, taxes and the banning of children from attending concert at night they could equally enact by-laws to prevent school children from using school hours to go to Internet Cafés.
He said parents should take keen interest in their children's education by visiting them unannounced.
Mr. Ajene said if children know their parents would visit them at school unannounced they would be scared to sneak from classroom to the café to engage in fraudulent acts.
He appealed to café operators to be patriotic and not to allow school children into their cafes during school hours.
