The Ghana Health Service has completed a week long exercise to promote the good health of children in the two the Dormaa districts in the Brong-Ahafo Region and commended parents for their commitment and co-operation.
The children, aged five years and below, were given vitamin 'A' supplementation, expanded programme on immunization against the six childhood killer diseases, growth monitoring (weighing), re-treatment of bed nets and birth registration.
In the Dormaa Municipality, 4,871 children received vitamin 'A' supplements, 437 bed nets were re-treated while 210 children under one year were captured on the birth register.
Mr. Jones Anim, Dormaa Municipal Disease Control Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that the exercise was successful and commended the enthusiasm, commitment and co-operation of parents.
He said the health service staff also employed preventive strategies to off-set the emergence of child-cantered diseases like malaria, diphtheria and polio during the exercise.
Madam Rebecca Domo, Dormaa East Director of Health Service, said the programme, the first in the new district was "peaceful and encouraging".
She said 2,687 children aged less than five years received the vitamin 'A' dose, while 301 bed nets were re-treated and 183 babies registered.
Madam Domo expressed the hope that public education would be intensified to ensure the sustenance of the exercise and appealed to parents to be very particular with the food and water their children aged less than five years take in.
