The Bekwai Municipal Directorate of Education, on Monday received a donation of reading and textbooks worth 2,000 Ghana cedis for distribution to basic and senior high schools in the area.
Mr. Joe Osei-Owusu, Member of Parliament (MP), for Asante-Bekwai, who presented the books at Bekwai, said the gesture was to help inculcate reading habit in school children and enhance teaching and learning.
He observed that education formed the foundation for development and there was the need to properly educate children towards national development.
Mr. Osei-Owusu said he would ensure that teachers in the area, especially those in the rural areas, were motivated and provided with accommodation.
He urged parents to prevent their children from idling about during their leisure hours and ensure that they took the studies seriously.
Mr. Samuel Ansah, the Municipal Director of Education, thanked the MP for the gesture and gave the assurance that the books would be fairly distributed among the schools.
He called on circuit supervisors of education to intensify their roles to ensure effective teaching and avoid absenteeism on the part of teachers and school children.
