A fifteen-member group from Charity Beyond Borders (CBB), a Pro-health non-governmental organisation (NGO), based in the U.S, on Thursday paid a visit to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), head office in Accra.
The group, which would be in the country for three weeks, has already organized a two-day health screening for residents of the Offinso Municipality in the Ashanti region.
The group has also visited other tourist sites in the country such as the Mole National Park in the Northern Region and the Kintampo waterfalls in the Brong-Ahafo region.
Nana Apau Duah, General Manager of GNA, welcoming the group, gave them a brief history and the rational behind the setting up of the Agency.
He said GNA was established by the first President of Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah to tell the Ghana's story and to project the African personality to the rest of the world.
Nana Duah said the focus of the GNA was to cover more of Ghana and Africa and refute the negative stories and stereotypes about the continent.
He said Ghana was among few countries on the African continent where the media was free to publish its stories without looking over its shoulders.
Nana Dua said currently the agency had agreement with three other news agencies such as the United Press International (UPI) of US, Press Trust International (PTI) of India and Xinhua of China to supply news for the rest of the world.
Professor Lisa Trujillo of the CBB said the group intended to build a clinic at the Martin Luther King School as well as provide health screening for about 300 residents of Madina.
She said the group would also provide the clinic with medical supplies which had arrived at the Tema Port.
