Airtel Ghana is poised to strengthen its hold on Ghana's mobile commerce industry. To this end, Airtel Ghana has completed the first phase of what it calls an Agent Rationalization Project. The project which is aimed at pruning Airtel Money's agent network to ensure that a core team of well trained agents with high interest and capability are deployed across the country to provide services to the increasing number of Airtel Money customers in Ghana and to enable the agents earn increasing profits from their partnership with Airtel Money.
Acting Head of Airtel Money in Ghana, Yaw Akosa Antwi said in a release that about 350 key agents have so far undergone training. "We noticed that there was a need to strengthen our Agent network to enable us meet the high and justifiable demands of our numerous customers. As part of our rigorous customer service processes, we gathered these feedback and decided to streamline our numbers whiles ensuring that the pruned numbers we have are equipped with cash and e-value for our customers", he said. Mr. Antwi adds that customers of Airtel Money can visit the strategically located agents for cash in, cash out, bills payments and top ups. "Additionally our Airtel Shops, franchise shops and selected post offices will also continue to offer Airtel Money services across the country.
Corporate Relations Manager of Airtel Ghana said Airtel Money continues to be the leading mobile commerce product on the market. "Winning the MobileWorld Mobile Money Service of the year last year affirmed our lead and stature on the market. We have since done a lot more to consolidate the product and provide the convenience our customers deserve", Mr. Gyan said. He added that "whereas others are testing certain products such as linking customers' wallets to their banks, Airtel Money customers in at least seven banks already experience the service and we are working on getting a lot more banks on the platform". According to Mr. Gyan, Airtel is working on ensuring that Airtel Money continues to be the leader in mobile commerce.
