President John Dramani Mahama says he is happy to see a boost in logistics and equipment for the country’s security forces. “Our security forces were severely challenged when it came to logistics and equipment to fulfil their constitutional mandate. Today, I can report with pride that vehicles, APCs, riot control equipment, aircrafts, helicopters and fire tenders make up a few of the components of the investments we have made in our security services,” he said.
This was in President Mahama's final State of the Nation's Address in Parliament on Thursday.
President Mahama said the provision of vehicles for judges and completion of the court complex had created a better atmosphere for the dispensation of justice. He commended Parliament for the passage of numerous legislations including the recent Public Financial Management Act which strengthens the fight against corruption.
He said the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NACAP) unanimously adopted by Parliament remained on track. However, President Mahama said the public and Civil Society Organisations were disappointed in Parliament’s inability to pass the Right to Information Bill.
“We are still hopeful that before this Parliament is dissolved a consensus can be found to pass this bill into law,” he said.
