Mr Anthony K. K. Sam, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly has admonished the newly inducted officers of the various sub- Metros of the Assembly to stay united and discharge their duties in a manner that would speed up the development of the Metropolis.
He also urged them to be conversant with all the Assembly bye laws to ensure their strict enforcement. Mr Sam said this during the inauguration of the sixth sub metropolitan district council in Sekondi in the Western Region.
The MCE said, "It is my fervent hope that you will foster collaboration instead of argument and divisive tendencies... When you pull your ideas, knowledge and energies together, your various sub- metropolitan district councils will reap the full benefits".
He pointed out that the legislative instrument that established the councils mandated them to keep records of ratable property, to fix and collect rates and fees, promote and safeguard public health, be responsible for the management of waste and maintain markets and prohibit the erection of stalls not designated among others duties.
Mr Sam explained that each council, according to the LI 2223 must consist of not less than 15 and not more than 20 members composed of elected members, five unit committee and five adults in the operational communities serving in rotation for a two year term.
"I urge you to collaborate with other stakeholders and development partners to undertake self-help projects in your electoral area."
Mr John Davis, the Presiding Member for the Assembly entreated the councilors to be time conscious and work in earnest in their duties to speed up the growth and general well-being of the people of the "oil city".
