Mr Ebenezer Acheampong of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has reminded Ghanaians of their responsibility to protect public projects and report any wrong doings to the appropriate authorities for action to be taken.
He said every citizen hasthe responsibility to protect and safeguard the environment, be sanitation conscious and be actively involved in communal labour as a way of contributing to the development of their areas.
Mr Acheampong was speaking at a town hall meeting organized by the Catholic Diocese of Koforidua Justice and Peace Commission to educate residents of Nyamekrom, a community in the New Juaben South Municipality on their rights and responsibilities, understand the local governance system and to demand accountability to enhance development.
The exercise was organized in collaboration with Konard Adenauer Stiftung Foundation of Germany and the New Juaben Municipal Assembly. The Coordinator of the Justice and Peace Commission, Mr Patrick Acheaw Owusu urged the people to understand that such platforms are avenues to table their concerns to the Assemblies and know what plans the assembly has for the communities.
He said, the Catholic Church has a role not only to build persons spiritually, but to sensitize the people to know their responsibilities as citizens and demand accountability from duty bearers.
Mr Gideon Amoasi Ampah, who represented the New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive, advised the people to always pay their property rates to support the assembly to generate adequate Internally Generated Fund (IGF) to undertake more development projects.
