The Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Tema has hinted on his resolve to implement all planned projects earmarked for the development of Tema before the end of his tenure.
Mr. Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La indicates that most of the projects under his Tema Restoration Agenda have reached maturity stages with some of them already rolled out.
He made this known on Tuesday during a Town Hall meeting organized by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) at the Tema Newtown Lorry Station.
Mr. Annang-LA hinted that the projects they were undertaking were many "but we won't wait till campaign time before we come around to fix their roads; we will do all before the campaign for the people to know we have accepted what they said."
In reacting to the concerns by residents of Tema Newtown during an open forum, the MCE said, "Most of the things they talked about were things we have already started working on. For example the lights fixing has already started in the communities and we've given them two weeks, street lights would get to Tema Newtown."
Mr. Annang-La said road expansion has also started with all untarred roads about to be tackled. He made particular reference to the Bankuman road construction which was a major issue for the people because it served many communities yet it was untarred.
The MCE said a lot of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects were about to be rolled out, "An example was the intent of Tema Lube Oil Company Limited to construct a dental clinic for the people of Tema.
He said currently, the Assembly was building fence walls around all government schools within the Metropolis to protect school properties.
Mr. Annang-La informed that because it was a fishing community, they knew they would need outboard motors, "So we supplied 72 outboard motors at the Tema Canoe basin. We are looking forward to adding another 100 for the coming season."
Mr. Annang-La said his outfit had secured enough quantities of premix fuel for the fisher men and that he had set up a committee to address the issue of hoarding of premix fuel to ensure the products come on the market and was sold at the right prices.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), he said noise making has become an issue for all, not only in Tema Newtown.
"It is something MMDCEs nationwide are looking at stopping because it is something that was disturbing, and because I'm leading the crusade at the national level, I have to make sure I stop it in Tema to serve as an example for his colleagues," he hinted.
The MCE addressed the poor state of the Chemu Lagoon by saying, "It was not over for the Lagoon which has been polluted by the industries in Tema. Currently, we are in talks with some people from Denmark who have come to look at the situation. Very soon some assembly officials would travel to Denmark to discuss the Chemu Lagoon with them."
He said they have started engaging the industries to begin setting up treatment plants that would treat their waste before releasing them into the environment.
He asked all stakeholders to come together to ensure that the lagoon was restored to its original state for future generations.
Present at the Town Hall meeting included the Paramount Chief of Tema, Nii Adjei Kraku II, representatives of the various clans in Tema Newtown and the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) of the TMA.
