The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La, has described President Akufo-Addo's policy to assign identity cards to all Ghanaian citizens as masterstroke that will help the country address many issues.
After touring some registration centres for the Ghana Card in Tema on monday, the MCE said the policy to identify Ghanaians is one that ought to have been done a long time ago.
"I think it is totally a no-brainer that we need to have identification cards that verify the fact that we are Ghanaians, and this is something that ought to have been done a long time ago. But the fact that the President is giving it such priority in spite of the many challenges that face us tells you that he is a visionary leader.
"Obviously, the Ghana Card is a masterstroke policy which will help Ghana address many of our issues, including; immigration administration, population management and Government's policy targeting," Nii Annang-La said.
He emphasised that, "the fact that the previous NDC Administrations never bothered to pursue such a policy tells you the difference between this Government and that one."
The Tema MCE's swipe at the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) was a reference to the fact that only the NPP Administrations of former President Kufuor and current President Akufo-Addo, have rolled out the policy programme to register Ghanaians into a national data base.
According to him, Ghanaians had cause to thank God for President Akufo-Addo, whom he said was actualizing all his campaign time promises, citing the Ghana Card registration as one of the highlight promises that the President is fulfilling
