Mr Samuel Addai Agyekum, District Chief Executive for Sekyere Kumawu, has said government is committed to provide the needed socio-economic infrastructure to improve living conditions in rural communities.
He said the goal of the various intervention policies being implemented by government were geared towards the overall improvement in the economic and social livelihoods of the people, especially those living in deprived rural communities.
Speaking at a durbar of the chiefs and people of Oyoko, to inaugurate two sanitation facilities for the people, he said, government is ready to work with the people to improve on their living standards in order to achieve the targets set in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The occasion coincided with a ground-breaking ceremony to commence the construction of a modern market and a mechanized boreholes for the community.
Mr Agyekum said the GHC 50,000.00 market was to help promote vibrant economic activity, especially for women in the community, while the water and toilet facilities were to end open defecation in the community.
He said the projects were being financed from the district assembly's common fund and the district development fund.
The DCE called for unity and cooperation among citizens in the area, adding that, this was the surest way to enhance and sustain development.
Nana Kwame Agyekum, the Ankobeahene of the Oyoko Traditional Area, speaking on behalf of the chiefs and elders, commended the DCE, the Assembly and the central government for the development projects especially the toilet facilities, which had come to take away the shame of open defecation which was prevalent in the area.
He urged the market women to cooperate with the contractor to ensure early and smooth completion of the project.
