Dr. Kofi Koduah Sarpong, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has expressed confidence in the leadership abilities of New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, January 20, Dr. Sarpong, popularly referred to as K.K. Sarpong, said Mr. Agyapong possessed the qualities needed to energise the party’s base and recover lost parliamentary and traditional seats.
“Kennedy is a perfect fit. We needed someone who would move the base. Our parliamentary seats were taken away from us. Even our traditional seats, we lost them,” he said.
Dr. Sarpong explained that the NPP needed a candidate capable of mobilising the grassroots and encouraging voter turnout.
“We needed someone who would ginger the base for them to go and vote. And for me, one thing that goes for Kennedy Agyapong was that he was the man of the moment, the youth, the grassroots, their choice,” he added.
He further noted that Mr. Agyapong’s charisma and popularity among young people made him a strong contender to re-energise the party’s support base.
“He got the charisma, they love him, they follow him,” Dr. Sarpong said.
