Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has praised veteran lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata for his outstanding contribution to Ghana’s legal development, saying his work has left an “indelible mark” on the country’s legal landscape.
Speaking at the UPSA Law School Honorific Lecture and Award ceremony on Wednesday, April 15, the Chief Justice said Tsikata’s career offers important lessons for the legal profession.
He noted that success in law should not be measured only by personal achievement, but by how much a lawyer’s work advances justice and strengthens national institutions.
“The career of Mr Tsikata offers important lessons. It teaches us that professional success is best measured not solely by personal achievement but by the extent to which one’s work contributes to the advancement of justice and the strengthening of institutions,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of ethics and discipline in the practice of law.
“It reminds us that the law is most effective when guarded by ethical conviction and intellectual discipline,” he added.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie commended the UPSA Law School for recognising individuals who have contributed to Ghana’s legal tradition, describing such recognition as important for maintaining professional standards.
“On behalf of the judiciary I commend the UPSA law school for recognizing individuals whose work has enriched Ghana’s tradition. Such recognition strengthens the values that sustain our profession and reinforces the standards to which we must continually aspire,” he stated.
He further highlighted Tsikata’s influence on constitutional law, legal scholarship, and advocacy in Ghana.
“Mr Tsatsu Tsikata your contribution to the law have left an indelible mark on Ghana’s landscape. Your work has helped shape the contours of constitutional debate and rich legal scholarship and strengthened the practice of advocacy. The respect you command across the legal community is a reflection of a lifetime devoted to the pursuit of legal excellence,” he said.
