The Majority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has urged the media to exercise caution in reporting on the detention of the Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North in the Netherlands.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Wednesday May 13, he warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that official documents relating to the case are yet to be fully obtained by the legal team handling the matter.
According to him, even the authenticated copy of the arrest documentation has not yet been received by the lawyer working on the case in Amsterdam.
He explained that the prosecutor in charge, together with the appointed legal representatives, is still processing and releasing the necessary documents for official review.
Mr. Dafeamekpor stressed the need for calm and restraint in public commentary, urging media houses not to publish information that could complicate or jeopardise efforts to resolve the situation.
“We want to urge all the media houses not to be throwing in things that haven’t been confirmed… so let’s stay calm and don’t jeopardise the issues,” he said.
He added that Parliament and relevant state institutions are actively engaging all parties involved and working towards a resolution of the matter.
Mr. Dafeamekpor also assured that coordinated efforts involving diplomatic and legal channels are ongoing to support the detained MP.
