Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has clarified that the party’s employment agenda is not centred on the mass issuance of government appointment letters, but rather the creation of sustainable job opportunities for young people.

Addressing party members in the Zabzugu Constituency on Tuesday, May 19, where discussions focused on employment expectations and the implementation of government programmes, he disclosed that the NDC’s approach to job creation is anchored on building systems that allow individuals to become self-reliant, rather than relying solely on placement into public sector jobs.

He explained that while government employment remains limited, the broader strategy is to support conditions that enable citizens to build sustainable livelihoods, including private enterprise and skills-based opportunities that can even generate higher incomes than public sector wages.

“So please, while we are talking about creating jobs, the various projects and programs that we spoke about when we were campaigning, they are still there. We have launched them,” he added.

He attributed the slow pace of results to economic challenges inherited by the administration, noting that limited fiscal space had affected funding for initiatives such as apprenticeship and youth-focused programmes.

Despite these challenges, he assured supporters that efforts are ongoing to scale up implementation, urging patience as the government works to expand opportunities and deliver on its employment commitments.
