The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has announced the suspension of proceedings from Wednesday, June 3, 2026, to Saturday, June 6, 2026, for the 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family and Sovereignty to be held in the Parliamentary Chamber.
About 30 countries with over 300 delegates are expected in Accra for the conference, which will focus on youth development and moral leadership, legislative responses to emerging social and ideological issues, and strengthening collaboration among African states on issues affecting family and society.
Addressing journalists on Monday, June 1, on preparations for the conference, the Speaker said, “As you may be aware, I announced the suspension of the house for the period of the conference to allow the chamber to be prepared for the conference.
“This year’s conference will focus on several important thematic areas, including the protection and strengthening of the African family system. Sovereignty and the preservation of African cultural identity. The role of parliaments in safeguarding societal values. Youth development and moral leadership. Legislative responses to emerging social and ideological issues and strengthening collaboration among African states on issues affecting family and society.”
He said key plenary sessions will also examine the implications of artificial intelligence and digital technologies on family systems, child protection and social cohesion.
“With particular emphasis on the urgent need for ethical frameworks, data privacy protections and responsible digital governance across the continent,”he stated.
