The group said it backs a suit filed by Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng and Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe challenging the delegate system used by political parties to elect their leaders.  

In a statement signed by Dr Benjamin Anyagre Aziginaateeg, Leader of ACUC Ghana, the organisation argued that every registered political party member in good standing should have the right to participate in internal party elections.  

The statement welcomed the Attorney-General’s decision to support the suit, describing it as a positive step towards strengthening democratic governance and internal party democracy.  

According to ACUC, widening participation in internal party elections would reduce the concentration of power in the hands of a few delegates and promote greater accountability within political parties.  

The organisation further argued that the current delegate system contributes to the monetisation of politics and limits opportunities for capable individuals to emerge as leaders.  

It urged the Supreme Court to uphold what it described as the democratic right of card-bearing party members in good standing to vote in the selection of party leaders.  

ACUC expressed the belief that such a ruling would strengthen political parties, deepen democratic participation, and enhance public confidence in Ghana’s electoral processes.
