Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, former Minister of Trade and Industry in the Kufuor Administration, has disassociate himself from posters announcing his intention to become the Flag bearer of New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2016.
Mr Kyerematen, who is a two time contestant as Presidential Candidate of the NPP said in a statement issued on his behalf by Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a leading Member of the Party on Tuesday that the posters are the handiwork of "unknown persons".
The posters are reported to have been put out in some regional and district capitals announcing a so-called "Alan for 2016" campaign.
"Mr Alan Kyerematen hereby informs the National Leadership of the NPP, the party's teeming members and supporters, as well as the... public that neither he nor any agent of his has authorised or initiated any campaign as the said posters purport to promote."
He affirmed that in view of the current court case being pursued by the party, which he believes is in the supreme interest of the Party, he, as a committed and loyal member of the NPP would not do anything to detract from the attention and support the petitioners need to see to the logical conclusion of the matter.
"In view of the weight of evidence the petitioners in the court case have put before the courts, it is believed that detractors of our party who are nervous about the possible outcome of the case have resorted to acts aimed at undermining the unity and cohesion of the New Patriotic Party and should such attempts succeed, these elements then hope to take advantage of a disunited NPP," he said.
Mr Kyerematen therefore called on genuine NPP members and loyalists to completely disregard the poster campaign that is being waged by enemies of the party, and stand solidly behind Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, the 2012 Presidential Candidate of the Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia his running mate and Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Party Chairman in pursuit of the case in which they are obviously seeking justice for the Party and Ghanaians in general.
He asked the Leadership of the NPP, members and supporters and the public to treat the current so called "Alan for 2016 poster campaign with the contempt it deserves and see it as the work of people who want to sow discord and disunity in our great party the NPP".
