The police on Tuesday increased security at the forecourt of the Supreme Court during the ruling on a joinder motion by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) seeking to be joined in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) election petition.
The Court by 6-3 majority ruled in favour of the NDC
The Police screened everybody entering the premises of the court either for judicial activities or otherwise including officials of the two parties.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Freeman Tetteh, Accra Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that nobody would be allowed to stand within the premises of the court while the proceedings were ongoing.
He said journalists could only be allowed in the premises if they were accredited to cover the event.
Lawyers were finding it difficult going through the strict and cumbersome security procedures.
Police personnel were seen seating on top of their vehicles outside the court premises, while the pavement that stretched from the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice building traffic light to the Supreme Court gate were barricaded.
Party officials seen by the GNA included Mr Aseidu Nketia, Mr Allotey Jacobs and Mr Yaw Boateng Gyan of the NDC while those for the NPP were Mr Jake Obestsebi- Lamptey and Mr Kwamena Bartels.
