Three Ukrainian opposition parties ended their occupation of parliament Friday after it was agreed that lawmakers would be allowed to vote in person and not by identity card.
The protest was started by Ukrainian opposition leader and world boxing champion Vitali Klitschko and members of his Udar (Punch) party, who criticized identity card voting as open to abuse.
"All the faction chairs have promised that there will no longer be any vote manipulation," Klitschko said. The Udar party leader himself spent several nights in the parliament building.
The protest continued for 17 days. Had parliament been blocked for 30 days, new elections would have been possible.
