Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, Paramount Chief of Anfoega Traditional Area, in the Volta Region, has questioned why some politicians renege on the promises they make to constituents on political
platforms.
He said such failed promises expose chiefs to ridicule and undue pressure from their subjects.
Togbe Tepre Hodo was speaking at a ground-breaking ceremony for work to commence on a 25.64- kilometre road for Hohoe Municipality and Kpando District, valued at five million dollars under the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA).
He alleged that there is a reduction in the mileage to be covered under the project, which exempts the Aveti-Anfoega Wadamexe-Akukome to Anfoega Post Office links without recourse.
Togbe Tepre Hodo said Alavanyo Kpeme-Kpando Konda and Logba Alakpeti-TafoAtome road network have been left out in the Hohoe Municipality, which was supposed to be captured under the 44- kilometre
roads advertised to be constructed.
He said the exempted portions constituted a potential economic zone and food basket of the two assemblies and could endanger the realisation of
MiDAs goal of poverty reduction and economic growth.
"This event is heightening agitation amongst the people in the traditional area. as if we are not competent," he said.
Togbe Tepre Hodo reminded politicians that promises alone do not win elections but ability to deliver them.
He called on government to live up to its promises and be informed that "chiefs are cardinal to the development processes and could not be ignored in the governance processes".
Togbe Tepre Hodo said the "Better Ghana" agenda could only be achieved through honesty, transparency and accountability.
