The Volta Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and their Constituency Chairmen have disengaged themselves from a group purporting to be proposing the former first lady,
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, as a flagbearer for the party in the 2012 general election.
A statement read at the party's regional office by Mr Kwasi Aboagye, NDC Volta Regional Chairman after a meeting with the constituency chairmen, said the attention of the party in the region was drawn to media publications by the group proposing the former first lady as a flagbearer.
The statement described the action of the group as premature and likely to create unnecessary tension and division within the party.
It said the NDC in the Volta Region therefore disassociates itself from the action of those behind it and their pronouncements.
"We condemn their action and reaffirm the region's total and unflinching support for the President John Evans Attah Mills towards
actuating the 'Better Ghana' agenda."
In a related development the Volta Regional branch of the United Cadres Front of the NDC, in a release signed by Mr Henry Ametepe, its Regional Coordinator, renewed its loyalty to the Mills-led administration and for his presidential candidacy for the 2012 elections.
The statement said the "UCF draws its strength from the humility, commitment and adherence to the principles of probity, accountability anchored on social democratic credential agenda of the NDC."
It reminded all those vying for political office that "no amount of detraction or undue interference in the affairs of the party would succeed."
