The Eastern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Ransford Ninson, on Thursday cautioned Political Parties not to involve themselves in the forth-coming District Level Elections.
He indicated that since the election was non-partisan there was the need for the election process to be carried out smoothly devoid of rancour to enable the Units and Districts to elect competent persons to represent them in the Assemblies.
DCOP Ninson was inaugurating the Regional Electoral Security Task Force in Koforidua towards the December 28 District Level Elections.
He indicated that it was the responsibility of the Security Agencies in the country to ensure that there was law and order to enable the electorate to cast their votes in a serene environment.
"The exigency of our constitutional and democratic era, and for that matter the decentralization process, requires that we enforce law and order in accordance with the appropriate principles of Democratic rules and
regulations of which the Security Agencies should be a leader in this course".
DCOP Ninson said in order to observe and have peaceful elections before, during and after the exercise it was incumbent on the various Security
Agencies to merge forces to achieve the desired result.
He indicated that it was against that background that the task force was being inaugurated to ensure that the electorate in the Region cast their votes to elect their local leaders to steer the affairs of their communities
in line with the decentralization process.
DCOP Ninson said the task force among other things would be receiving electoral materials at the Electoral Commission (EC), intensification of
Highway and "confidence patrols" to ensure the uninterrupted movement of EC officials and materials.
The task force would also ensure that there are security personnel at all polling stations in the Region and give feedback to the National
Security Task Force among others.
The Regional Police Commander appealed to all qualified voters to come out in their numbers to cast their votes to elect their leaders to represent them in the Assemblies since the Security Agencies were poised to provide
them the needed security to enable them to exercise their franchise come December 28.
DCOP Bernard Guyiri Derry, National Commander of Services Workshop and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Richmond Boi Bi Boi, Director of Operations, were also present at the function.
