The President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana, Mr Theophilus Aidoo-Mensah, has called on Ghanaians to make the upcoming district level elections peaceful.
Mr Aidoo-Mensah, who is the District Chief Executive for Gomoa West, said in a Christmas message that the peace the country was enjoying must not be taken for granted.
He said every election had a potential to generate violence and appealed to the electorate not to vote on "whom you know" basis but must assess the quality of the candidates before casting their ballots.
Mr Aidoo-Mensah said the assemblies needed personnel who could come out with ideas to develop the districts and not those who would only support the contributions from other members.
"This is the time for us to make wise decisions for our assemblies to move forward," he said.
Mr Aidoo-Mensah appealed to Ghanaians, especially drivers, to help make the Christmas accident free.
Though Christmas, he said, is a period of merry making "we must limit our enjoyment for us to come back from the holidays strong and healthy to contribute our quota to the attainment of the Better Ghana Agenda."
