An aspiring assemblyman for the Daboase West Electoral Area, in the Mpohor Wassa East District, Mr Albert Asante Okyere, on Tuesday, promised free supply of potable water from the Ghana Water Company to the electorate, when elected as assembly member for the area.
He made the promise at a public forum organized by the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), a civil society organization at Daboase.
Mr Okyere assured the electorate that, if elected, he would make sure the electorate get water free of charge.
He said water is an essential commodity for man's survival, and that he would ensure reliable supply of water in the area at all times.
Mr Okyere, who is also a teacher at Mpohor Obrayebona Anglican Primary School, said the Ghana Water company had acquired large tract of land at Daboase, and had installed machines for processing water to the communities in the Mpohor Wassa East District, without paying compensation to landowners, whose lands were acquired by the company for the project.
The aspiring assemblyman added that, he would also focus on sanitation, health and education issues bothering the electorate.
Mr Okyere pledged to liaise with the assembly and the traditional authorities in the area to implement development projects, to improve the living standard of the people.
The Project Officer of the Institute for Democratic Governance, Mr Kojo Mpriam, said the organization would hold assembly members accountable to their words and asked them to give promises they can fulfill.
He said IDEG would mount electoral platforms in 15 districts in eight regions across the country, to afford the electorate the opportunity to interact with the aspirants and express their concerns before December 28, which had been slated for the district level elections.
