A Moroccan man has set himself alight in the northern port city of Casablanca, Morocco's financial capital, state-run MAP news agency reported on Saturday.
The agency said the man, who is being hospitalized, is the first case of self-immolation in the North African nation.
The man, who has been not been identified, set himself on fire on Friday after being locked in a heritage dispute with some of his relatives, the MAP said, citing his family.
The incident is inspired by an act of self-immolation by Tunisian Mohamed Bouaziz, which sparked protests across the country and forced president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali to step aside and flee the country.
Morocco's neighbors Mauritania and Algeria have reported incidents of set-immolations which has become a method of protest and reflected the growing despair and dissatisfaction among young men in the region.
In Egypt, which has already witnessed several incidents of self- immolations, three more men set themselves alight on Friday amid local reports said the trio have a history of psychological disorders.
