Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba left Libreville on Friday afternoon for Cairo, the capital of Egypt, on a working visit, to boost bilateral cooperation, the government said.
During this visit, the Gabonese president is scheduled to hold talks with his Egyptian counterpart Hosni Mubarak on issues of common interest.
Egypt and Gabon have maintained good relations since 1975, with strong ties between the leaders of the two countries.
There are cooperative accords signed between Gabon and Egypt in culture, civil aviation and other fields.
The most outstanding agreement was signed in 1976 between the Gabonese government and the Egyptian Fund for Technical cooperation with African countries.
Egypt has also sent health and education experts to Gabon. In the health sector, more than 20 Egyptian doctors are currently working in Gabonese hospitals.
