Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has sacked a number of high-ranking police officials, the Kremlin press service said on Friday.
On the list, most of the sacked top officials were in charge of interior issues and police forces in Russian republics.
The Kremlin said Medvedev's decree "became effective upon its signature." However, both the decree and the Kremlin didn't mention the reasons for the eight officials' dismissals.
In order to shape a better image of Russian law enforcement system, Medvedev has ordered a large-scale reform of the police department in December 2009.
Earlier in February, Medvedev signed into law the bill, which stipulates a 20-percent cut of police officers by Jan. 1, 2012.
