Salah will be reunited with Roma, where he spent two seasons as a player before joining Liverpool in the summer, on Tuesday for the first leg of the semifinal tie.

The Egyptian remains in contact with a number of his former Roma teammates, while he is still highly thought of at the Stadio Olimpico.

"I played for Roma for two years, I had a great time with the club, with the fans, I fought for the club and now I have to play against them," the forward told the Liverpool website. "We text each other, as players, every week -- we're still good friends.

"I'm very excited to go there and I love the fans, they love me, [there are] more emotions. I hope we are going to win but also I wish them good luck."

Liverpool are looking to reach their first Champions League final in 11 years and secure the club's sixth European Cup crown.

"It's something huge if you win the Champions League for a club like Liverpool," Salah added.

"It's something different for us as players, for the city, for the fans, for everyone, I am sure we will fight for that 100 percent."

One of Liverpool's past triumphs in the European Cup came against Roma in 1984 when Joe Fagan's side won at the Stadio Olimpico via a penalty shootout.

Current Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson intends to draw inspiration from that occasion, but also wants this current side to secure its own place in Anfield folklore.

"Of course we all know the history of the club and how brilliant it is," Henderson told the Liverpool Echo. "We definitely take inspiration from that but at the same time our focus is to create our own history.

"We want people to be looking back at this team in 20 or 30 years time and saying how good we were and how special this year was.

"I feel as though we are in a great place but I feel that this is just the start of something special.

"This is what you play football for, to play in games like this against top European sides. Everything before it, every struggle, every test that you have had will put you in good stead for a game like this.

"We expect big things from ourselves with the squad we have got and the manager we have got. We expect to go out there and perform to the levels we have done.

"We'll go in with confidence and belief but at the same time give respect to the opposition who are a fantastic team."
