Ghanaian banking giants, Universal Merchant Bank, have partnered the John Agyekum Kufour Foundation, as the official bank, of the J.A. Kufour Cup match, fixed for Sunday, October 28, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi.
The charity match, organised under the auspices of the John Agyekum Kufuor (JAK) Foundation, is to raise GHS 80 million cedis, as part activities to commemorate the upcoming 80th birthday of Ghana?s former President, which falls on December 8.
The former Ghanaian President, is credited for ensuring Ghana's first ever participation in the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) World Cup Cup in 2006 in Germany, after investing heavily in the project.
Mr. John Awuah, Chief Executive Officer of Universal Merchant Bank, who was present at the launch of the J.A. Kufour Cup match, said his outfit was committed to the project, that would honour the ex president for his contribution to the development of Sports in Ghana.
He lauded the initiative to play a special match in honour of the former president and urged other corporate organisations to support the project.
Funds raised would be channeled to various project with five million dollars allocated to the construction of an ultra-modern Centre for Leadership and Governance at the University of Ghana as well as supporting various projects of the Foundation which includes The Kufuor Scholars Programmme (KSP), The Kufuor Young Entrepreneurs Network,
Annual Lecture Series on Governance and Development, The Kufuor Election Observers Group and The Kufuor Prize for Best Community Leadership.
