Mr. Rodney Swigelaar, World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Africa Director, will be in Ghana from November 20-23, to commence plans to ensure a successful hosting of the All African Games in 2023.
Ghana was awarded the hosting rights last week in Algeria, after beating Egypt in the bid process and would for the first time host Africa in various sporting events come 2023.
Mr. Swigelaar in a letter addressed to Mr. Isaac Asiamah, the Minister of Youth and Sports, congratulated Ghana for a successful bid, adding that he was prepared to work with Ghanaian officials to ensure success.
"Indeed, your bid was very strong and I am very sure that the execution thereof in 2023 would be solid. Considering the fact that I am also very familiar with some of your officials who worked on the plan, I was hardly surprised at the quality of Ghana’s efforts.
"As I told your officials in Algeria, I am now preparing to work alongside the event organizers to ensure its success," Mr. Swigelaar said in the letter.
He also announced his decision to come to Ghana and provide the necessary support from his agency as quickly as possible to ensure successful hosting of the biggest games on the African continent.
"As I told your officials in Algeria, I am now preparing to work alongside the event organizers to ensure its success. I would be in Ghana in November (20-23) and I look forward to meeting you in order to personally congratulate you on Ghana’s efforts and to discuss the kind of support WADA can provide to the organizers. The sooner we start with this, the better," he stated.
The Games, would also serve as qualifiers for the various disciplines for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
