Ambassador George Haldne-Lutherodt, has donated 10 bags of rice to the National Sports Authority (NSA), towards the National Cross-Country at Mpohor, in the Western Region, fixed from February 7-9, 2019.
The donation was in support of the NSA towards the organisation of the event.
Professor Peter Twumasi, the Director General of the NSA, expressed appreciation to Ambassador Lutherodt for his kind gesture.
Professor Twumasi explained that, preparations towards the Marathon has been impressive, adding that he was excited about the locations and the numbers involved.
He added that, the event would be a memorable one, because all ten regions were involved with each region sending 12 representatives.
“Seeing people like Ambassador Lutherot donating to us for our youth who would be participating is very inspiring and am very pleased to have him on board.
“The preparations at Mpohor is fine, I was there to do an assessment on what has been done so far.
“All the regions are participating this time and each region has 12 contestants, 6 females and 6 males which we would be having the female and male edition as well.
“How the place was selected still surprises me because I never knew we had such a wonderful nature somewhere in the Western Region.
“There are also volunteers from the secondary schools and other surrounding areas, who are willing to run as part of the event," he said.
Professor Twumasi expressed his appreciation to the sponsors on board including H. E. Nana Addo, the president of the Republic of Ghana for getting involved to support the sport.
He added that, Cross-Country is sports which involves having fun and it is loved by many, hence the hope that, it would be sustained.
“I thank our sponsors for the support especially the government of Ghana, H.E.Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo, the Minister Hon Issac Asiamah. They have really supported the NSA to put the event together.
“Cross country is a sports that people would like to participate in, because of its long distance nature. It’s been years and we want to bring it back and sustain it,” he ended.
