Mr Sidik Shardow, chairman of the Western Region of Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), has said, there is the need to revive boxing in the region, as it represents one of the best sporting disciplines in the country.
He said this during a press conference organized in collaboration with the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), at the Takoradi Shopping Mall to brief the media on the essence of reviving boxing in Takoradi in particular and the region at large.
Mr. Shardow said the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), have pledged to support and assist any regional branch, which was prepared to revive the sport within their area of jurisdiction.
He indicated that, his outfit was ready to support in the form of cash and in kind, equipment and other logistics to help revive the sport.
"Let’s us all sacrifice and commit ourselves with a little time to Boxing and make sure it stays in the Western Region," he said.
Mr. Jeffery Kumi Manzan Owusu, the Regional Sport Director said, boxing was mainly for able bodied like the youth and would help to create jobs and reduce the rate of unemployment among the youth in the region, if taken serious.
