Nima defeated New Fadama 1-0 in the finals to win this year’s Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu Ramadan Soccer Gala Championship played at the Kotobabi Wembley Park in Accra on Saturday.
A fast pace game saw both teams making several incursions into their opponent’s vital areas but failed to score in the first 45 minutes.
Both teams put up a splendid performance in the second half but Nima who were slightly on top scored the only goal of the game through striker Matthias Essien, seven minutes to full time.
On their way to the finals, New Fadama beat Madina 2-1 and edged out Alajo 2-0 while Nima eliminated Darkuman 2-1 and went on to beat Newtown 2-0.
The Best player award went to Rashid Bartels of Nima who received a motorbike as his prize.
The competition which was sponsored by Somoco Ghana Limited, Nasco Electronics Limited, Five Star Energy Drink and Ashfoam Ghana Limited is played annually to mark the end of Ramadan.
It was on the theme’ Bringing Zongos Communities together-- Celebrating 100 year’s of Alllah’s Grace’.
Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu, National Chief Imam, commended the teams for the sportsmanship exhibited throughout the games.
He urged them to ensure that there was always peace in their various zongo communities.
Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique, Minister of State at the Office of the Vice President, tasked them to refrain from being used by some disgruntled politicians to cause chaos in the country.
