Tony Watt has "got his hunger back", says Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson after signing the striker on a deal until the end of the season.
The 26-year-old former Celtic impressed in training this week after arriving as a free agent following his exit from CSKA Sofia in January.
Watt scored five goals in Bulgaria having spent last season with St Johnstone, netting eight times.
"We are hoping it will turn into a longer-term contract," Robinson said.
"I was actually convinced after the first day but didn't say anything, because of his talent.
"He is very, very hungry. That is the key to me, to keep Tony hungry. Tony has had a lot of clubs, he has been up and down, but there has never been any doubt that he is a talented boy."
Robinson sees Watt, who could make his debut in Saturday's Scottish Cup tie at St Mirren if international clearance is granted in time, as an ideal addition after selling James Scott to Hull on transfer deadline day.
"James gave us a physical presence and an outlet in all three positions and we didn't get the opportunity to replace him," he said. "To get someone with the experience of Tony at this stage, we are very pleased."
Capped once for Scotland, Watt has also had spells with Hearts, Charlton, Cardiff and Blackburn as well as three stints in the Belgian top flight.
