Leading boxing promoter, Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye, says former world champions, Richard Oblitey Commey and Isaac Dogboe, will have a daunting task in their journey back to the top of the sport as world title holders once again.
He said Dogboe’s chances of recapturing world title glory looks even more challenging to achieve because the youngster had been inactive over a long period and was no longer in the ratings of the notable boxing sanctioning bodies.
Dogboe has been out of action for 12 months since losing his bid to recapture the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) super bantamweight title from Emanuel Navarrete at the Tucson Convention Centre on May 11, last year, having previously lost his crown to the Mexican five months earlier at the Madison Square Garden, New York.
“It is going to be very difficult for both of them. However, for Dogboe it is going to be much harder since he is out of the rankings and not fought for a while. It means he must start soon,” Mr Ntiamoah-Boakye told the Graphic Sports.
The CEO of boxing promotion firm, Box Office Sports, noted however that the 25-year-old boxer could leverage on his status as a former world champion to get fights capable of catapulting him quickly to a world title bout.
“Dogboe is a former world champion and so he can climb up quickly and get back to the top again,” he stated.
Dogboe has moved base to the United States where he is working hard in the gym to revive his career under new technical handlers, including former American multiple weight world champion, James Toney.
On Commey, the promoter believes the former International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight champion can reclaim the title he lost to Teofimo Lopez by quickly forgetting about the first encounter and mapping out a strategy to take the new champion down.
“Commey can come back, he has a chance of reclaiming his title if he gets another quick shot at the title, but it is not going to be easy.”
He called on Ghanaians to throw their weight behind the two boxers as they embark on the journey to reclaim their respective titles.
