Bantamweight fighter, Jessie Manyo Plange, is bracing for a World Boxing Association (WBA) bantamweight title shot against either Guillermo Rigondeaux or Gary Russell by March.

Plange, who is rated second by the WBA, says he is training hard to make his maiden world title shot count against any opponent in his bid to become a world champion.

The 32-year-old skilled boxer has reportedly been contacted to prepare to take on either WBA bantamweight titlist, Rigondeaux, or Russell in the coming months after moving to number two in the ratings.

However, Rigondeaux is already negotiating for a unification fight with World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bantamweight title holder, John Riel Casimero, which could ditch Plange’s plans.

That arrangement could pave way for Plange to fight top-rated Russell for the WBA ‘regular’ bantamweight crown by March.

In an interview with Graphic Sports Online, the Ghanaian boxer was hopeful of adding his name to the country’s list of world champions when given the nod.

“I am more than waiting for the announcement of the fight but as it stands now I’m in line to fight for one of the WBA belts by March. It’s good news for me and the nation as a whole.

“We have been contacted to commence preparation and the only thing left is the opponent. I’m in line to fight either Rigondeaux or Russell and I’m getting ready for each of them,” he said.

Plange fought and won twice last year against Sherif Kareem and Burkina Faso’s Alexis Kabore. He stopped Kareem in four rounds, before earning a unanimous decision victory over Kabore in Nigeria.
