Mr. Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister has warned that communities, which vandalize public property such as Police stations, would face the full rigours of the law.
"This is because lawlessness, instability and disorder are not compatible with democratic practice anywhere. Nobody takes the law into his or her own hands in a democracy", he added.
Mr Dzamesi who was inaugurating Police Station at Weta in the Ketu District, described the phenomenon where some communities take to vandalizing Police Stations at the least provocation as barbaric.
He said destruction of public property was frustrating government's stride to put the scarce resources into good use for the development of the country.
Mr Dzamesi noted that the government was doing all it could to improve health, education, transport and the agriculture sectors, adding that security was therefore needed in the communities to ensure sustainability.
He asked the community to cooperate with the Police in the fight against crime in society.
"The Police Station is yours, you must therefore protect and ensure that no criminally minded people damage it", Mr Dzamesi advised.
Mrs Elizabeth Mills-Robertson, Deputy Inspector General of Police, said the doors of the Police Administration were always open for all complaints,
including those against the personnel.
She said his Administration would not countenance citizens who take the law into their hands by unjustifiably attacking other members of the public, Police Stations and personnel as well as engage in wanton destruction of properties under the guise of expressing their grievances.
Mrs Mills-Robertson appealed to all citizens to cherish peace and security for the accelerated growth and development of their communities.
The Regional Minister had earlier paid a courtesy call on Togbe Sogbolisa Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief of Aflao Traditional Area and inaugurated Aflao Senior High Secondary School, Sukladzi and Avata basic schools, all in the Ketu District.
At the inauguration, the Minister distributed exercise books to the pupils and advised them to learn hard.
