Mr Thomas B. Laten, National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Zabzugu-Tatale, on Tuesday pledged to unite various ethnic groups of the area to pave way for peace and development if he is again given the mandate in the December 7 parliamentary elections.
He said he would also use his position to seek the necessary support for the split of the District as a result of the growing number of people in the area for effective administration and development.
Mr Laten, who was outlining his vision for the district in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Accra said although various ethnic groups had never come out with arms against each other, current developments and skirmishes were not congenial for political growth and effective administration.
He mentioned some current skirmishes between some Konkombas and Bassares as some of the developments he would nib in the bud for development to triumph.
"I have lived and worked in Tatale for the past 34 years and know all the problems they face and therefore can be the best man to help solve such problems should I receive your mandate."
Mr Laten appealed to the electorate to ignore ethnicity in considering the parliamentary candidate as that could polarize the area and deny them the necessary development projects.
"Politics of ethnicity and sectionalism are things of the past and should never be revisited."
Mr Laten said as a professional teacher he would do everything possible to improve on educational facilities in the area as the first step of trying to bridge the gap between the education of the children in the area and those in other endowed districts and regions.
"We shall all pray that you co-exist peacefully, before, during and after the general elections so that at the end of the day peace and development would triumph".
